Historic Plaque Dedication
There will be a State Historical Plaque dedication at National Cemetery in Wilmington on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at
10:00 A.M. National Cemetery is located at 2011 Market Street. Sgt. Fred Johnson, a re-enactor with Battery B, 2nd Regiment,
U.S. Colored Light Artillery at re-enactments, and who also participates with our UDC members when we speak at schools, has been working for
some time to gain recognition for a group of black Union soldiers who are buried at National Cemetery. These soldiers died at Fort Fisher. The
mourning ladies of Cape Fear Chapter 3 will participate in the ceremony. There will be a reception following the marker dedication.

Massing of the Flags
The "Massing of the Flags" is scheduled for Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the UDC Memorial Building in Richmond, Virginia.
Copies of the registration form are not yet online, but copies will be available at the April meeting at Claudia's home.

Jefferson Davis Birthday Picnic
The Jefferson Davis Birthday Picnic will be held on June 11, 2011 from 11:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M.
at Shelter #4 at Hugh McRae Park. Please bring a covered dish. Members of SCV George Davis Camp have also been invited to
join us for the special event that we have each year to honor Jefferson Davis. Members of the George Davis Chapter 6,
Children of the Confederacy, are also invited to attend this picnic. We will have fried chicken from Smithfield BBQ,
and a smoked picnic for our meats. See everyone there!!
